SYMPTOMS

Possible Diagnosis

Purple, red or bleeding gills
Fish may clamp, may appear darker in color
Red streaking on the fins or body
Fish may gasp for air at the surface of the tank water
Torn & jagged fins....

Cloudy eye can be caused by injury to the eye, fungus, bacteria, parasites, but most often due to poor water quality

Death occur within minutes, to a day, not all tank inhabitants affected

 

Poisoning. check water source, ph, co2, o2, copper, zinc, phenols, rotting food, feeding changes

 

Discus jumping and making jerking movements

 

Acidosis, alkalosis, plant insecticides

 

 

Gasping for air at surface, irregular breathing

 

Oxygen deficiency, ammonia or nitrite poisoning

 

Exopthalmia (pop eye)

 

Various causes;

tuberculosis ich, cestodes(sparganosis) metacercarial diseases, various bacterial diseases

 

 

Neck tumour...sometimes cannot close mouth

 

Thyroid or other tumour

 

Distension

 

Ich...piscine tuberculosis..abdominal dropsy, also in other diseases

 

Curved spine

 

Camallanus, sporozoan infection, piscine tuberculosis....in fry, destroy as these are congenital defects

 

 

Emaciation

 

 

worms,Ich, piscine tuberculosis, internal parasites...see also Gill copepods
